Project Title: Developmental Coordination Disorder: A Survey of Canadian Pediatricians
Research Category: Quantitative
Project Description: Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a common motor disorder which interferes with a child’s ability to perform activities of daily living and/or to succeed academically. DCD persists into adulthood with lasting negative consequences including academic difficulties, social isolation and mental health issues. Pediatricians are well positioned to assist in the diagnosis and management of DCD in children. Unfortunately, DCD is under-recognized and under-diagnosed by physicians across Canada. This study aims to survey Canadian Pediatricians, Pediatric Residents and Fellows to determine their awareness, knowledge and management of DCD. This survey will be a first step in raising awareness about DCD among Pediatricians. In addition, the information gathered from this survey will allow us to best target educational interventions for Pediatricians about DCD, one of the most common disorders of childhood.
